Transit & Rail Multimodal Development Continuing Services

Client

Florida Department of Transportation, District Four

CTS provided a variety of transit and rail-related engineering and planning services under this contract.

Projects included location and site survey, Transit ridership forecasting, regional rail plan development, financial plan development, transit station development, Transit Development Plan review and designs, transit infrastructure evaluations, cost estimating, site development, project vetting, data collection, transit NEPA support, feasibility studies, electrical/HVAC improvements, Park-N-Ride development, and premium transit and rail facilities services, as well as GIS-related services.

We led several tasks in developing construction plans for transit facilities and Park-N-Ride locations. We have supported the development of the first queue jumper and transit priority signal in Broward County at SR-7 and Prospect Road. On our most recent task, we designed and prioritized a list of 76 bus shelter improvements requested by Broward County Transit within public ROW. Thus far, we have provided estimates for FDOT to begin programming project efforts. We are also helping to identify existing projects within the FDOT Work Program where it would be beneficial to include bus shelter improvements and will be coordinating directly with the FDOT project managers to incorporate these needs.

We have completed Districtwide grant (FTA, FRA, FHWA, and state) administration and the application process for multimodal systems and have conducted safety and security reviews, as well as vehicle inventory reviews, for transit and rail systems. CTS is leading a regional effort to evaluate all railroad crossing safety and operational conditions for FDOT District Four. Over 30 crossings are under evaluation and design in Broward County to further prioritize future grade separation improvements needs for those crossings.
